Why are my headlights faded?

You just got done washing your car on a beautiful sunny day and you wonder, why are my headlights faded? Is this on the inside? My car is only 5 years old! I have seen older cars with this problem but I figured mine wouldn't do that for a while!

You remember seeing a commercial advertising a simple wipe of a cloth can make them look new! No problem the supercomputer in your pocket can't handle! You whip out your phone, pull up Google and type in: headlight...

Ummmm, headlight wipe? Headlight clear? Headlight polish? Yeah, you've got it! You thumb it into Google and you hit the the search button. Well you've got a couple videos, a ton of products and your left wondering, "I thought this would be easy".

You jump in your freshly washed ride and head on over to the nearest auto parts store. "I'm just gonna wing it", you say. You find yourself in the exterior care aisle staring at 12 products that claim they can clear your headlights in "3 easy steps!".

Wait! I know I saw that product that just wiped on, I want that one! There it is! You buy it and don't even make it out of the store before tearing into the box. You wipe it on the headlight just like it tells you to do and holy cow! You are less than impressed.

You may try another product or two or even look into purchasing new headlights. Another "holy ____" comes out but this time followed by a word you wished your 3 year old standing next to you didn't hear. $500 to replace the headlights on my BMW!

Back to the drawing board...
